It's a good night,
honor to be here y 'all.
Let's slow it down one time.
In the Woolies Swamp.
If you ever go back in
the Woolies Swamp
You better not go at night
And there's things I've heard
Middle to the woods
And they make me draw me to rain
Yeah, things that crawl
And things that fly
Things that creep around on the ground
And they say the ghost
that loses its way
Gets up and he walks around
Well, I couldn't believe it
Just had to find out for myself
Yeah, I couldn't conceive it
And I done listened on by now
Yes, I couldn't believe it
I just had to find out for myself
There's some things in this world
you just can't explain
The old man lived in the woolly swamp
Way back in the booger woods
He never did no lot of harm in the world
But he just didn't ever do much good
Yeah, people didn't
think too much of him
They thought he ac ted kind of funny
But that old man didn't care
about the people anyway
He'd just care about his money
He'd stuff it all down in mason jars
And bury it all around
Yeah, certain nights if the
moon was right
He'd dig it up out of the ground
He'd pour it all out on the
floor of his shack
And he'd run his fingers through it
Yeah, Lucius Clay was a
greedy old man
And that's all there ever was to it
Yeah, I couldn't believe it
I just had to find out for myself,
yeah, I couldn't conceive it
I just never listened to nobody else,
I couldn't believe it
I just had to find out for
myself
There's some things in this world
you just can't explain
Oh, yeah
See them cable boys, were white trash
They lived over at Carver's Creek
They were mean as a snake
and sneaky as a cat
and belligerent when they speak.
Then one night, the oldest brother said,
y 'all meet me at the
woolly swamp later.
We'll take a hold of Lucius' money,
then we'll feed him to the al ligator.
And they found that old man back
with a shovel in his hand
and 13 rusty mason jars
he just dug up out of the sand.
They all went crazy,
and they beat that old man,
and they packed him up in the ground.
And they threw him in the swamp
and stood there and laughed
while that black water sucked him down
And they turned around
and went back to the shack
and they picked up that money and ran
But they wasn't going nowhere,
cause they realized they were
running in quicksand
And they struggled and screamed
and they couldn't get away just
before they went under
They couldn't hear that old man laughing
with a voice as loud as thunder
And that was 50 years ago,
and you can go there yet
There's a spot in the back of the yard
Where the ground is always wet
Certain nights, the moon is right
Down by that dark footpath
You can hear the three
young men screaming
And hear one old man laugh
The wood is strong,
but you better not go at night
There's things in the dirt,
in middle of the woods
That make a strong man die from fear
Yeah, the things that crawl,
the things that fly
The things that took
a pound off the ground
They say it's cause of a luscious plague
As a reindeer walks around
Well, I couldn't believe it
Just had to find out for myself
Yeah, I couldn't conceive it
Never did this to nobody else
I couldn't believe it
Just had to find it out for
myself
There's some things in this world
you just can't explain
Yeah, there's some things in this world
you just can't ex plain
Thank y 'all so much
for having me tonight
Y 'all are such an honor to be here
This band right here,
give it up for them
